This past weekend I ate some falafel — one of my favourite snacks.
I take a bite and it’s delicious. Salty and creamy, crispy and soft, a falafel sandwich is proof that there is a higher power in this world. Or at least very talented chefs.
But there is something missing. I take a moment to think, take a look around, and notice that whatever I’m instinctively looking for simply isn’t there. If fact, I realise I don’t even know what I’m looking for. I don’t know what I need.
And then it strikes me — there’s no hot sauce.
I take a pause from my friends story, and I look around the room and scan the other tables. There’s salt, pepper, and olive oil. But sadly there’s nothing red, nothing even green, nothing that will give me the sweet fire I desire.
But then I realise — I’m in a restaurant, surely they’ll have hot sauce somewhere? Maybe in the back?
So I get up and ask for the hot sauce. A few moments later, I’m biting into an even more delicious falafel sandwich, now oozing with the red gold I was looking for.
There’s a lot you might want in life — whether it’s a kick of heat in a falafel, a promotion at work, or someone’s understanding in a relationship. The journey to fulfilment is long and often circuitous, but it begins with the simple act of expressing your needs and wants.
So, ask for the hot sauce.
Be careful with your stomach 🥰
